Sustainability Task Force reports invasive-shrub removals, new EV charger and trail project progress

The Glencoe Sustainability Task Force on July 16 reported several recent environmental and sustainability initiatives: curbside removal of invasive buckthorn, a new EV charging station at Village Hall, progress on the Green Bay Trail construction project, and a large electronics-recycling event.
Trustee Rosenblatt said the Buckthorn curbside collection program removed "more than a 109 cubic yards of invasive shrubs this season," and noted the task force coordinated the Friends of the Green Bay Trail Day set for July 25. The task force also announced an EV charging station outside Village Hall opened for public use on June 22 and that the 2027 Green Bay Trail construction project held a June 6 on‑site open house that drew a positive community response. Rosenblatt also cited a Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County electronics-recycling and destruction event that diverted over 10,400 pounds of paper and electronics from the waste stream.
Why it matters: These initiatives combine habitat restoration, active-transportation infrastructure and waste‑reduction actions that affect neighborhood quality of life and village sustainability goals. The task force will continue to refine outreach and coordinate events including a tree sapling giveaway at the July 25 Friends of the Green Bay Trail event.
