Elkhart County approves $85,000 local SHSP application, $150,000 cybersecurity request and a $40,000 radio grant

Elkhart County commissioners on July 20 approved three grant actions presented by Jen Toby, executive director of emergency management.
Toby said the local State Homeland Security Program (SHSP) request of $85,000 would be used to replace a Silverado truck used to haul trailers, a need driven by vehicle age and rising maintenance costs. Toby said the $85,000 request represents the county’s local application and that grant proceeds would arrive in the next fiscal year.
On a national homeland-security application, Toby said staff applied for a $150,000 award focused on cybersecurity; the request would fund SOAR and IPAM software that "is directly connected to protecting us from cybersecurity." Commissioners approved applying for the full $150,000.
Toby also reported the county received a $40,000 award from the AEP Foundation to purchase replacement radios (noting the county is replacing radios that are no longer supported for maintenance). Commissioners moved, seconded and approved each item unanimously.
