Board hears Freedom Boom fundraising totals: $5,234 for veterans memorial; members flag traffic, signage and cleanup lessons

Trenton city staff told the Parks and Recreation Board on July 14 that the Lehi Freedom Boom event generated funds earmarked for a Veterans Memorial and highlighted operational takeaways from the celebration.
"So in total, we had raised $5,234 that night," Miss Moore said, reporting that the raffle proceeds and tips for the memorial fundraiser were dropped off with the Mittel Down Community Foundation. She also reported beverage-station receipts of $4,125 and $1,332 (a combined beverage total of $5,457) and said food trucks and pop-up vendor fees totaled $1,780; staff described beverage and vendor receipts as offsets for event expenses.
Board members praised the event organization and strong turnout but said traffic exiting the park created delays. "It took me 45 minutes to get from the park to my house on John Street after I left down there," one member said. Members recommended clearer zone signage for parades, a ticketing process that requires fewer written contact details, and a trash-pickup crew or volunteer clean-up team to reduce the burden on public works.
Members also discussed restroom management at large events, noting clean facility finishes but missing soap dispensers and trash cans. Staff said soap dispensers previously installed were vandalized; the board asked public works to investigate tamper-resistant options and potential stationary dispensers.
Miss Lucas and other board members thanked volunteers and staff for organizing the event and asked that lessons learned be applied to upcoming Movies in the Park (Aug. 8) and other events. The board set its next meeting for Aug. 11, 2026; no budget changes or formal appropriation votes were taken at the July 14 meeting.
