Principals and superintendent flag food‑service and elementary HVAC issues; district to follow up

At the Stanton County Unified School District #452 Board of Education meeting on Sept. 15, Principal Leah Crane reported spreadsheets tracking student meals since the start of the school year and raised concerns about meal quality and the district’s food‑service staffing model under vendor OPAA. Crane asked the board to examine how many days a food‑service director needs to be physically present in the district to meet program expectations.
Superintendent Dave Novack said he would contact OPAA representatives Aaron and Jack to convey Crane’s concerns and to check whether Keystone, which had submitted a competing bid for the district’s food program, is experiencing similar issues. Novack also noted OPAA had provided updates on food prices that may affect reimbursement; he said these price updates do not change the district’s board policy on meal prices.
Novack reported that roof‑insurance paperwork has been completed and that a contractor (identified as John in the minutes) has been in contact to address problem spots. He also said the elementary school’s heating and air‑conditioning system is becoming a growing problem and requires repair; the minutes describe repeated visits to the elementary because of extreme temperature swings.
During principals’ reports Andrea Jones said the elementary has begun an after‑school program with low initial enrollment and that Cara Geyer has been approved to undergo a stem‑cell transplant and will be out for testing; Rosalyn is expected to fill Geyer’s duties in the near term. Jones also reported she has collected playground equipment options and cost estimates (stored on the district Google Drive) and that the board discussed multiple proposals before approving a purchase later in the meeting.
Superintendent Novack committed to follow up with the food‑service vendor and to provide the board with updates; the meeting minutes state additional pricing and options on turf and installation will be provided in Friday notes.
