East Dundee board approves expansion of outdoor refreshment area for remaining Thursdays through Oktoberfest

The East Dundee Board voted to designate additional 2026 village‑sponsored special events as part of its outdoor refreshment area program, extending the arrangement for the remaining Thursday events through Oktoberfest. Trustee (S7), who moved the resolution, said prior events produced some participant confusion about the boundary and situations of patrons walking in with drinks from outside the fenced area. "DORA is not really well understood," S7 said, adding that several participants reported confusion.
Police leadership reported no incident reports related to the DORA during prior events. "We didn't get any issues reported to us," Chief Kelly said, answering trustees’ questions about enforcement and neighbor complaints. Trustees discussed logistics including staffing at crosswalks, whether offsite businesses like Black and Grey could participate when located across the street, and whether collector cups or wristbands would be appropriate.
Board members suggested rebranding the program to a clearer name — one trustee suggested "Sip and Stroll" — and recommended the events committee test a larger zone for one additional event before making permanent changes. The board voted unanimously to approve continuation for the season as proposed.
Trustees asked staff and the events committee to consult directly with nearby businesses about participation and to bring back a plan for additional trials or a rename for future meetings.
