North Lake board pauses adoption of several policies after attorney advises hold

The North Lake School Board voted to table updates to several board policies after the district’s policy consultant relayed attorney guidance recommending a temporary hold. The policies include administrative regulations tied to sections addressing gender issues and pregnant/parenting supports.
Staff told the board they received a late email from the district’s policy consultant advising that five or six policies (and related administrative regulations) should not be adopted at this time because of legal questions and pending litigation concerns. The superintendent said the policies identified for hold included AC and ARs, GBA/JBA and related ARs, GFGs, and the pregnant‑and‑parenting policy (JSB). ‘‘His advice was to not adopt any of those,’’ the superintendent said.
Board members agreed to table the policy adoptions and revisit the items at the next meeting after further legal review. One member asked how long the hold might last; staff said they could update the board next month but cautioned that litigation or additional guidance could extend the timeline.
The board carried a motion to postpone action on the listed policies and asked staff to relay attorney feedback and any clarifying edits for reconsideration.
