The Milton-Freewater City Council authorized the Finance Director to hire up to two seasonal parks maintenance laborers to support Public Works during the 2026 summer season, the council recorded at a June 22, 2026 special meeting.
City Recorder Leanne Steadman said seven applications produced five interviewees and recommended the Finance Director, Laurie Bubar, be authorized to sign off on hirings for consistency. Councilor John Lyon moved to delegate hiring authority to the Finance Director contingent on budget funding and adherence to city personnel policies; Councilor Destiny Jensen seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
The authorization allows the Public Works Department to fill up to two seasonal positions from the June 18 interview pool; council minutes note hiring must follow city personnel policies and be within budget.
