Public Works Director Matthews told the Merrill City Council on Aug. 14 that crews completed routine water and wastewater tasks, including sampling and lift-station maintenance, and accepted outside dumping that produced approximately $24,000 in revenue. Matthews said staff submitted a Small City Allotment Grant request for $230,000 and thanked Klamath County Public Works for assistance.
Matthews raised procurement concerns with Les Schwab, alleging unprofessional conduct and inconsistent or inflated pricing; he said the city will seek alternative bids. He requested approval to purchase two laundromat locks for public‑restroom doors at a cost of $820; Mayor Pro Tem Johnson moved and the council approved the purchase 4-0. Discussion followed about restroom hours and cleanliness.
Matthews also noted completed work for the upcoming Bluegrass Festival and repairs to park sprinklers and other routine maintenance items. No public comment was received on the public‑works items.
