Dragonfly Booster Club asks Monroe SD 1J board to consider $16,000 geotech survey for unsafe high school track

Kristen Strand, president of the Dragonfly Booster Club, told the Monroe SD 1J school board on Tuesday that the high school track is unsafe and that the district needs a geotechnical survey estimated at $16,000 to identify underlying issues.
"The track's unsafe for students to access. We're unable to host track meets," Strand said, and added that a recent grant application to Oregon Grassroots Track, submitted in October, was denied on Dec. 31. Strand said Dragon Pride (the Booster Club) can fundraise but that paying $16,000 for the geotech survey would ‘‘pull critical funding from all of our other programs.’'
Strand asked to return for a longer presentation to explain the Booster Club's mission, fundraising capacity and the specifics of the grant request. She named two other Booster Club members in attendance, Tanya and Tory Hausman, and offered to leave contact information with the district so the board could include the item on a future agenda.
The board Chair asked whether the District could add the Booster Club to the February agenda; Strand confirmed availability for the Feb. 10 meeting and said she would leave email addresses so staff could circulate materials.
No formal board action was taken at the meeting; the Chair accepted the request to add a fuller presentation to the Feb. 10 agenda. The Booster Club’s immediate request — funding for a $16,000 geotechnical survey — remains unresolved.
