Several community members raised concerns at the Oct. 13 Belgrade School Board meeting after attendees said a teacher at Belgrade High School and Belgrade Middle School died unexpectedly.
"My name is Samantha Baker," the public commenter said. She called attention to the "sad news" and asked the board and community to focus support on teachers and especially on students who have lost someone important to them.
Board members and staff responded that counselors from the Bozeman School District had been made available and that school principals had been given the night off to address the situation. The chair and trustees thanked school staff for arranging supports and asked community members to contact DeeDee and Trey to coordinate offers of help and resources for the family.
District leadership said it would continue to monitor needs and work with partner districts to provide counseling and other supports for students.
The board then moved on to scheduled business.
