New Rockford commission advances nuisance-property follow-up, requests letters and outreach

The New Rockford City Commission on May 5 reviewed several ongoing nuisance-property issues and directed staff to take next steps while tabling higher-cost decisions until the June meeting.
City Auditor Andrew Presnell reported the nuisance-yard enforcement program is moving forward and provided updates on related work. Presnell said the commission’s nuisance-vehicle list is complete and recommended the city clear space in the impound lot first; the commission agreed and asked Presnell to work with City Attorney Peterson on drafting letters to owners of impounded vehicles.
Commissioners also discussed a substandard structure at 806 1st Ave N. The commission requested that Presnell contact Insure Forward to determine what insurance would be required to proceed with demolition of the structure; no demolition decision was made and the item remains under review.
On outreach, Presnell proposed a courtesy door hanger to notify property owners of nuisance-yard concerns as an initial voluntary step; the commission directed Presnell and City Attorney Peterson to draft wording for that hanger. The measure is intended as a lower-cost first action before pursuing enforcement.
A citizen comment form from Teresa Risovi concerning the Richard Hucke property at 206 13th St N was reviewed; Mayor Stuart Richter told the commission he had spoken to Risovi before the meeting and the commission noted the property already appears on the nuisance-yard list, which staff will continue to address.
Other related items were tabled for the June meeting, including potential costs to replace City Hall and proposals to cover employees’ city utility bills. The commission did not take formal demolition or benefit votes on May 5.
