At its May 18 meeting, the Union Township Board of Education paused routine business to honor retiring staff and present annual teacher recognitions. Superintendent Dr. Barbara Popp led a commendation for five retirees: David Knoble (math), Christine Pezzino (counselor), Maria Prentice (nurse), Leigh Richards (social studies) and John Veit (physical education). The board thanked them for their careers supporting students and families in the district.
The board also recognized Teachers of the Year: Erin Casellini (counselor) and Elizabeth Schenck (intervention teacher). Principals and staff introduced honorees and the board acknowledged contributions to the district. Drama Club participants and staff were recognized for their production of "Legally Blonde Junior," with specific acknowledgment of work by Mrs. Debra Sinkiewicz.
The superintendent noted the evening was both a celebration of careers and gratitude for long service, and the minutes record standard safety drill reporting for the 2025—2026 year. These recognitions were presented at the start of the meeting's public session; no formal board vote was required for acknowledgments.
