Board approves Carroll High walk zone; construction and transportation updates provided

The Board of School Trustees approved a proposed Carroll High School walk zone intended to cover about a one-mile area and roughly 150 students who live within that zone.
Operations director Dr. Brandon Bidding told trustees the zone was drawn with sidewalks and walkability in mind and that the Allen County Highway Department had been contacted to monitor signal timing at key intersections; he said the change could reduce the immediate need to add school bus drivers and related expense. After discussion and questions from board members, the board approved the proposal by motion and voice vote.
Bidding also presented construction updates: drone footage of progress at the transportation center showed concrete work and steel being set, roof projects at Arcola and Carroll Middle School are progressing, and crews are planning asphalt binder placement in parking lots around registration time with temporary closures on certain entrances. He said subsurface issues on some sites required additional geogrid and stone work and that contingency funds had been used to address those repairs.
On student supports, Bidding reported the Compass discipline alternative program at the high school is advancing; the social worker and leadership team are developing procedures for students who need redirection and supports.
What’s next: the district will circulate maps and logistics for parents ahead of registration and monitor intersections with Allen County; the board will continue to receive construction images in future meetings.
