Gunnison County designates 401 N. Main St. a historic landmark

The Gunnison County Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution 2026-23 at its July 7 meeting, designating the home at 401 N. Main St. as a Gunnison County Historic Landmark.
Geographic Information Services Manager Mike Pelletier presented the nomination, saying the home is a well-preserved 1915 Craftsman bungalow that was owned by John Steele, who managed Gunnison Hardware. The Historic Preservation Commission had reviewed and approved the application on June 17, 2026. The public hearing opened at 9:02 a.m.; no public comments were offered. The BOCC voted (Houck/Smith) to adopt the resolution; the motion carried with two yes votes and one absence recorded (Puckett Daniels).
The resolution limits the landmark designation to the home itself and excludes the adjacent shed and garage; it also directs that the resolution be recorded in the Gunnison County Clerk and Recorder’s records.
