Gunnison County backs GOCO grant application for Jake’s Park expansion and relocation

Assistant County Manager for Operations and Sustainability John Cattles presented a proposal to submit a Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) grant application for just under $700,000 to fund the relocation and expansion of Jake’s Park and to extend pavilion space. Cattles said the project is tied to the Fairgrounds Master Plan and listed a minimum county match of 5%.
Commissioner Houck said he welcomed the park amenities and their connection to nearby residential areas. On a motion by Commissioner Houck and seconded by Commissioner Smith, the BOCC approved Resolution 2026-22 supporting the grant application and authorizing County Manager Matthew Birnie to sign the grant agreement if the award is made.
The resolution authorizes the expenditure of funds as necessary to meet the terms and obligations of a grant agreement and specifies the county will provide necessary match funds; the resolution describes a GOCO request of up to $685,000 (subject to award and execution of a grant agreement). The board carried the motion with two yes votes (Houck and Smith); Commissioner Puckett Daniels was absent.
