Agency official seeks replacement for 2005 Dodge Durango; commissioners ask for budget review

An agency official presented a proposal to replace the current 2005 Dodge Durango, which the official said has about 179,000 miles and has served multiple departments. "It's like to replace the current 2005, Dodge Durango...it has a 179,000 miles, just over a 179,000 miles," the official said, and proposed either a used Ford Explorer (model years 2015–2020) or a 2022–2025 Dodge Durango with around 30,000 miles.
The official estimated a price range of $20,000 to $40,000 for a replacement and requested an additional $5,000 to equip the vehicle with a radio and amber emergency lighting for roadside safety. "That's gonna be an additional $5,000," the official said.
Commissioners asked about the vehicle's use and safety lighting choices, and one commissioner noted multiple departments need vehicles and suggested creating or reviewing capital improvement plans (CIP) to address fleet replacement. Commissioners said they would review budget availability and consider whether to set aside funds in a CIP for the purchase; no motion to buy was made.
The county did not record a decision on trade‑in or procurement method at the meeting; staff said they would follow up once budget details are clearer.
