Child Support Agency down one caseworker; contract with Jefferson County continues

Michelle Alexy, director of the Bayfield County Child Support Agency, reported to the Sheriff’s Committee on March 16 that the department is monitoring staffing and service arrangements as the year begins.
Alexy said “there was nothing to note in the budget this early in the year,” but added that because the department is short one position she is watching salary and benefits. She reported performance measures are meeting three of four targets. Alexy said offers for the vacant caseworker position were made but not accepted and that she received six applicants during a second round of recruitment.
Alexy described an existing contract with Jefferson County under which Jefferson provides 2.5 to 10 hours per week of casework billed at Jefferson County’s case specialist hourly rate. The committee did not take formal action related to Child Support during the meeting.
Alexy said she will continue recruitment efforts and monitor the department’s budget and performance metrics.
