Board proclaims August 4 as National Night Out in El Paso County

The El Paso County Board of County Commissioners on July 21 adopted a proclamation endorsing National Night Out 2026 and encouraging residents to participate in neighborhood safety events on Aug. 4.
Commissioner Holly Williams (speaker 8) introduced the proclamation, which commended the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and neighborhood-watch groups for their roles in fostering cooperative crime-prevention efforts across unincorporated areas. Under Sheriff Jeff Kramer (speaker 11) and other sheriff's office representatives described plans for more than 10 National Night Out events across the county and said the office will partner with community groups to encourage signups for regional emergency alerts and to answer residents' questions outside of emergency situations.
The board adopted the proclamation by a 5'0 vote and recessed briefly for a photograph.
The proclamation text (as read during the meeting) cited partnerships with the National Association of Town Watch, neighborhood-watch contributions to public-safety goals, and the role of county volunteers in making events successful.
The board's formal adoption of the proclamation will be recorded in the county minutes and shared with partnering agencies and volunteer neighborhood-watch leaders.
