Students, chaperones and teacher report on Puerto Rico trip at Buchanan board meeting

Mr. Munyon summarized the itinerary — arriving in Old San Juan, cultural tours, an adventure day with cave swimming and cliff jumping, a visit to Ponce and a people‑to‑people service connection in Utuado — and shared that photos and additional feedback were posted online. He thanked the Buchanan Scarecrow Charities for sponsoring and contributing to student experiences on the trip.
Students and a parent gave brief firsthand impressions. One student highlighted outdoor activities, saying the cliff‑jumping and cave exploration were “an amazing experience,” and another described how the trip strengthened Spanish comprehension through real‑world practice. A parent said the trip allowed students to try new foods and bond as a group.
Staff noted the district is aiming to run this trip every other year, alternating with the band program, to increase opportunities for students. Board members praised the group and invited other students to consider future trips.
