Buchanan Community Schools board approves superintendent salary amendment and several routine items

The Buchanan Community Schools Board of Education voted July 20 to approve a salary amendment for Superintendent Robbins after a midyear evaluation and a short closed session under the Open Meetings Act.
The approval followed a closed session the board held under Section 8(a) of the Open Meetings Act for the superintendent’s midyear evaluation; the board returned to open session at 6:55 p.m. A motion to approve the salary amendment was moved and seconded and passed by roll call.
In addition to the salary amendment, the board approved several personnel and operational items by roll call vote: authorization of named district employees as banking account users at the United Federal Credit Union and Honor Credit Union; Buchanan Virtual Academy (BVA) course offerings for the 2026–27 school year; a clarified amendment to the collective bargaining agreement with the Buchanan Transportation Association (effective through June 30, 2029) that adds a clearer definition of a full‑time bus driver; and annual administrative contracts for 2026–27 covering school and district administrators.
The board also accepted two donations: $2,200 from Nia Godski Plumbing for repairs at the school farm and $5,173 from the Buchanan Community Schools Foundation toward a high‑school wall wrap project. Policy updates dated June 10, 2026 — including district updates to Policy 3303 (Gifts and Donations) — were approved. Staff noted Policy 3303 retains a $1,000 reporting/threshold practice and that donations involving physical changes to facilities (planting, signage, structures) will come to the board for approval.
The consent agenda, which included minutes, warrants and multiple hire recommendations for 2026–27, passed by roll call with one abstention; a board member stated, “I’m going to abstain based on a relative conflict.”
The meeting also certified a BVA student, Jackson Reagan, for high‑school graduation upon satisfactory completion of district requirements.
The board chair said a placeholder for the superintendent salary amendment will be included in the district budget so the change can be implemented. The meeting concluded with routine committee and outreach updates; the next regular meeting was scheduled for Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. in the district library.
