Grand Rapids approves grant-funded in-car dash cameras for police vehicles

A police department representative described the grant as covering purchase, installation, software and storage for in-car dash cameras and said the department already uses body-worn cameras. “The grant will cover the cost in full including installation, software, and storage,” the representative reported.
Board members lauded the chief and the police department for pursuing the grant and said in-car cameras are an important complement to body-worn cameras. The resolution, as presented, increases both revenue and expense lines to reflect receipt and use of grant funds; board members recorded a voice vote of approval.
Next steps: procurement and installation of in-car dash cameras through the police department as authorized by the amended budget and grant agreement.
