Education Foundation reports 8,000+ pounds of supplies, $9,000 in grants and Fall programs

Dr. Johnson, speaking for the Education Foundation, told the Lake County School Board on June 22 that the foundation collected more than 8,000 pounds of school supplies during a June drive and has received over $9,000 in grant funding to support the Apple Mart program.
Dr. Johnson said the supplies will be sorted and stocked for teachers to use at Apple Mart stores and that the first shopping day will be Aug. 4. The foundation also plans to sunset the Eustis store and replace it with an online ordering system for schools within the Eustis radius. Dr. Johnson noted the Take Stock in Children program earned the state luminary award and that student applications for that program will open in August and close at the end of October.
The foundation raised more than $130,000 in event sponsorships for a back-to-school fundraiser and will celebrate staff in early August at the back-to-school summit. Board members asked clarifying questions about how to vote in the foundation's influencer fundraising and Dr. Johnson explained the social-media link and donation process to activate the "donate now" button.
