Hartland manager schedules Route 5 closure for tractor removal, Four Corners testing; fire chief to transition roles

Town Manager John Broker Campbell updated the Hartland Selectboard Aug. 4 on a series of operational matters affecting roads, public-safety staffing and facilities.
Campbell said a tractor stuck in a brook on Route 5 will be pulled Aug. 14; the road will be closed that day and site-preparation work will create delays on Aug. 13. He said he is coordinating signage and detour plans with VTrans and Green Mountain Highway Control.
Campbell also reported that Hartland Fire Chief John Sanders will transition out of the chief role but will remain a member of the department. The minutes note only the transition; no timetable or successor was recorded.
The town has scheduled lead and asbestos testing at Four Corners beginning Monday, Aug. 11; Campbell said the testing is expected to take about two days. He also mentioned minor repairs to equipment (a light and a tire for the grader) and that the town has discussed an extended lease option with the Windsor Early Childhood Education Center; Val Raney inquired about a proposed lease-extension option for potential tenants.
In a separate infrastructure update, the board received information about proposed lighting for the Three Corners intersection; the vendor will prepare a quote. Campbell presented an initial review of the Town Highway Policy with updated information and proposed changes; the board discussed the revisions and asked follow-up questions.
