Selectboard approves $36,000 Quechee Road ditching contract and related flagging payment

The Town of Hartland Selectboard approved July 21 a $36,000 contract with D&D Excavating to perform ditching work on Quechee Road intended to improve drainage and slow roadway deterioration.
Town Manager John Broker Campbell said the work is a smaller component of the larger Quechee Road plan and that Road Foreman BJ Mattson solicited quotes from D&D Excavating and Green Mountain Flagging. After discussion of scope and funding, Selectboard member Jim Rielly moved to approve the D&D contract; Thomas Kennedy seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
In a separate motion, the board approved a payment of $1,139.11 to Green Mountain Flagging to support the same project. Jim Rielly moved the payment; Clyde Jenne seconded and all members voted in favor.
The town noted a $6.4 million full Quechee Road project remains in planning, but short‑term work like this ditching contract is being pursued to prevent further road deterioration without calling a bond.
