City Council approves multiple retail hemp and alcohol license changes

The Tuscaloosa City Council approved several retail-license changes Tuesday, including specialty-retailer endorsements for consumable hemp products at two package stores and ownership-change approvals and liquor/beer permits for several fuel and convenience locations.
City staff (Mary Beth) introduced an application from Save More Incorporated, doing business as Spirits and More at 238 15th Street East, to add consumable hemp product sales; the Tuscaloosa Police Department reported no objections. Applicant representative Ken Aycock said the store has operated for several years and is adding hemp products to its sales mix. The council voted to approve the request.
The council then approved a similar specialty-retailer endorsement for Paradise Mart (4103 Greensboro Avenue), where Aycock represented owner Mansour Salah and said the store has been at that location for years. The police department again reported no objections before the council approved the motion.
Separately, the council approved an ownership change and an off-premises-only retail beer and table-wine license for the business at 1902 Veterans Memorial Parkway (Bama Express/Baymax Press Fuel). Suleiman Badwani, who represented the applicant, told the council the location already sells alcohol and is applying for beer-only authority; the council approved the motion after a staff presentation and a favorable police report.
At McFarland Boulevard East, the council approved ownership-change requests and licenses for McFarland Texaco and McFarland package store, including a class 2 package lounge retail-liquor license for the package store. Badwani again represented the applicants; staff confirmed required reports had been filed and the police department had no objections.
Council members also approved multiple license motions for Shop and Go Holt (1800 Crescent Ridge Road NE), including off-premises beer/table-wine and class 2 package/lounge liquor approvals after staff presented aerials and application materials and police voiced no objections.
The council recorded the approvals by motion and vote; public hearings for each application were opened and no members of the public spoke in opposition during the hearings.
The council did not record in the transcript a roll-call listing of individual member votes for each item; motions were announced as carried following the staff presentations and police reports.
