Resident and commissioners raise concerns about local buildings, parking and garbage pickup

Resident Dean Vorland told the commission that his building and the neighboring structure at 806 1st Ave N do not share a common wall and asked that, if the adjacent building is torn down, the city patch the door opening that once connected the two structures. Vorland also asked about curb stops on vacant lots, the city's website, and parking at New Rockford-Sheyenne School.
Commissioner Dauenhauer raised concerns about a separate property owned by CenDak Cooperative at 117 9th Street South, saying there are holes in the roof and missing doors in parts of the building that allow animals to enter. The commission directed City Auditor Andrew Presnell to send a letter to CenDak Cooperative informing them of the issues.
Commissioners also reviewed a citizen comment from James and Fern Schuster regarding garbage pickup in the alleys; Presnell said he had called the Schusters and told them they are eligible to have the trash tote placed in the street.
No enforcement actions were recorded at the Jan. 6 meeting beyond the direction to send a notice to CenDak Cooperative; the minutes do not record any timeline for repairs or follow-up inspections.
