Charles Town maintenance director details park cleanups, facility repairs and generator work

Jim Weisong, the city’s maintenance director, gave the Infrastructure Committee an operations update on April 27 that covered routine and project work across Charles Town parks and facilities.

Weisong said crews completed yard‑waste pickup and park cleanups, serviced mowers and the street sweeper, de‑winterized Evans Run restroom facilities, and completed floor work at CW Hall. He reported the police‑department generator was serviced and the City Hall elevator was repaired after a hose failure. He also detailed planned work: replacing flower boxes on North Charles, removing a split branch between the tennis courts and Veterans Memorial, addressing a leak at Jefferson Memorial Park, and continuing pavilion and rental support this season.

Weisong noted plumbing at the 661 facility had backed up and required substantial clearing; staff and a third‑party contractor assisted with flushing and repairs. He also said staff sent two employees to a trenching class at a nearby county maintenance facility and that the department is procuring paint to repaint stop bars at intersections once weather permits. Committee members thanked Weisong and asked staff to coordinate repaving and utility scheduling to avoid re‑cutting newly paved streets.
