At its April 8 meeting the Helix School Board received updates on district finances, facilities and enrollment.
Superintendent Brad Bixler thanked volunteers and reported the Booster Club Crab Feed raised $16,052. He said district enrollment was reported at 183 students and that 47 charter‑school applications had been submitted since enrollments opened March 1, including 21 kindergarten applicants; a lottery, if required, will follow the May meeting.
Facilities updates in the packet included HVAC work (Gordon’s Electric billed $18,296 for new units), additional electrical outlets for shot clocks (estimated $1,224), a $5,300 estimate for lighting on the practice field (the Booster Club agreed to cover the lighting cost), and an underground sprinkler proposal estimated at $11,250–$13,250. Construction on the new welding shop is progressing; invoices in the check register include payments to Kirby Nagelhout Construction. The district reported a theft of an air compressor from the welding shop and the incident was reported to the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office.
Kara Taylor of Intermountain ESD presented financial materials by phone. The March check register and disbursement summary show total cash outlays for the period of $234,691.90, including payments to Mid‑Columbia Bus ($51,224.79 across accounts), Pye‑Barker ($13,937.55) and others. IMESD will work with district staff on the 2026‑27 budget; the Budget Committee meeting is scheduled for April 28, 2026.
The board approved the financial report and check register as presented.
