The Helix Budget Committee voted unanimously April 28 to approve the district’s proposed 2026‑27 budget and set the operating tax rate and bond amounts for the coming fiscal year.
Budget Committee Chair Rachael Reynolds presided over nominations and returned the meeting to Superintendent Brad Bixler, who read his budget message and presented a proposed budget with $6,071,302 in budgeted resources for 2026‑27. The presentation included an estimated $1,498,000 beginning fund balance and a $500,000 planned cash carryover from 2025‑26.
Kara Taylor, IMESD assistant business manager, reviewed the General Revenue Fund and identified adjustments needed in athletic salaries and recommended separating Arts and Band line items. She said she would prepare an updated document showing the committee‑requested adjustments.
The committee then moved, on a motion by Paul Bracher and seconded by Friday Bracher, to set taxes for the 2026‑27 fiscal year at a rate of $4.5542 per $1,000 of assessed value for operating purposes, to set the bond levy at $345,000, and to adopt the total operations figure of $12,178,002. The motion passed unanimously.
The committee set a public Budget Hearing for Wednesday, June 10 at 6:15 p.m. for final adoption and public comment.
