Helix School Board approves student trips, adopts policy revisions and fills budget-committee vacancy

The Helix School Board took several governance actions Dec. 10, approving student travel, adopting a policy revision and filling a budget-committee vacancy.
Board members approved the 8th-grade STEM trip to the Future City competition in Boise, Idaho (Jan. 9–11, 2026) after hearing from 8th-grade STEM teacher Rachel Gavin, who said 12 students expressed interest. The Board also approved four out-of-state high-school ski-trip dates to Bluewood (Jan. 12, Feb. 2, Feb. 9 and Feb. 23); motions for student travel were moved and seconded by board members and recorded as carried.
On governance matters, the Board adopted revisions to Policy KH (Public Gifts to the District) after a first reading and agreed to forego a second reading; the policy text in the packet clarifies acceptance procedures and directs the superintendent to develop guidelines. The Board also passed a resolution directing the district to support Nicole Schott for OSBA Board of Director position 2 and Jose Aparicio for the OSBA Legislative Policy Committee position 2.
In personnel and committee business, the Board accepted Shannon Matcom Peters’s resignation from the budget committee and appointed Mindy Arnold to fill the vacancy; motions were moved by Friday Bracher and seconded by Bobby Corey and carried with three yes votes recorded. The Board also agreed to meet on Jan. 7 or 8 to complete the superintendent evaluation process.
