The Town of Culbertson accepted a donated cemetery and accompanying records from the Hillside Cemetery Association and agreed to manage cemetery sales, records and maintenance.
At the July 6 regular meeting the council adopted a resolution to accept the land donation and the association’s remaining treasury balance. Under the resolution, the town will segregate donated funds in a dedicated cemetery fund to be used for cemetery purposes only. The resolution directs the town treasurer to receive lot-sale proceeds and authorizes the clerk to issue deeds upon receipt of town treasurer receipts; it also establishes procedures for locating and recording lots and for compensating the person who locates lots ($5 per lot when performed by Alex Damm or the chief of police).
The resolution and related minutes describe the legal expectations for managing the cemetery under the Revised Codes of Montana and instruct the town to keep the required register and to regulate interments in accordance with law.
