Park district warns equipment replacement will be costly as council weighs service and contract changes

Zach Schnitzler, president of the Oxbow Park District, told the council the park's play equipment is outdated and likely needs replacement within five years at substantial expense. He said the park district can currently levy only $7,000 per year and requested the council's awareness and assistance for future purchases.
Schnitzler asked whether the community is satisfied with the park’s current location or whether it should be moved to a more centralized site; he noted the parcel could be split into two lots. Mayor Jim Nyhof proposed forming a park committee with one representative each from the clubhouse, the city council and the park board to study options. Auditor Stacey Fett was asked to send an e-mail to residents notifying them that the park will be closed while crew mow.
The council also discussed routine municipal operations. OnSite Property Services reported mowing rates of $35 per hour when using the city's mower and $180 per hour when providing two workers and their mowers. Waste Management will remove the grass-clipping roll-offs and will not return them; the city plans to move grass-clipping roll-off services to Fat Man Trash.
The council approved consent motions and routine financial business: an agenda change to remove the P&Z report and add the park report (motion by Mark Sanders, seconded by Mike Bindas; carried), approval of the April 15 minutes (motion by Cody Furstenau, seconded by Mark Sanders; carried), approval of bills except PeopleService invoices (motion by Bryan Triebold, seconded by Mark Sanders; carried pending a PeopleService credit), approval of financials (motion by Cody Furstenau, seconded by Mike Bindas; carried), and a motion to adjourn (motion by Cody Furstenau, seconded by Bryan Triebold; carried).
