Kingsford Heights council members debated whether the town marquee should permit postings from local non-profit groups, including churches and fraternal organizations, and whether such access should exclude for-profit uses.
A council member proposed wording to allow local nonprofits, churches and fraternal groups to post events on the town sign while excluding for-profit advertising. Proponents argued the change would help community groups publicize events; opponents warned it could be hard to draw lines and might open the sign to many requests.
The motion failed for lack of a second after members questioned the scope and fairness of allowing churches and groups to post on town property. The chair noted the matter could be reintroduced with more information.
“No motion was seconded, so the proposal dies for now,” the chair said. Council members asked staff for more information and a clearer policy proposal before revisiting the issue.
