The Waite Park City Council approved its consent agenda, including minutes, licensing items, equipment purchases and a joint powers agreement with the Saint Cloud City Attorney's Office.
During public input, resident Brad Macher said prospective home buyers had told him "taxes in Wade Parker are too high," and urged the council to avoid large tax increases as it considers the budget. Another resident, John Zek of Avon, described a dispute with a local Kia service employee, saying the employee was "rude" and that the employee told him the "court is gonna tear me apart." City staff advised Mr. Zek about civil remedies and law enforcement options discussed offline.
At the meeting city staff reported four current vacancies in the police department. Staff recommended appointing Ashley Lawrence, the top candidate on the eligibility list, at entry‑level step 1 with an effective start date of Aug. 17; the council moved, seconded and approved the appointment by voice vote.
The council also approved paying the bills, announced the next meeting on Aug. 3, reminded attendees of a senior cookout this Wednesday and noted the primary elections on Aug. 11. The meeting adjourned at 6:43 p.m.
