Centura Public Schools committee reviews multiple district policies and 2026–27 staff handbook draft

The Centura Public Schools Board Committee of the Whole met July 13 at Centura High School in Cairo and reviewed a packet of district policies and a draft 2026–2027 staff handbook. Dr. Heneger led the board through the policy review and the principals outlined proposed handbook changes.
Board member Teresa Grabowski moved to approve the meeting agenda; Brooke Schmitt seconded and the motion passed unanimously (6–0). No members of the public signed in to provide comment under Centura Public Schools Policy No. 2009.
Dr. Heneger reviewed proposed edits to policies numbered 5035, 5066, 5067, 6001–6003, 6005–6012 and 6038, telling the board the changes were required by recent regulatory updates and included additional recommended clarifications. Principals Beberniss and Brown joined Dr. Heneger to present the draft staff handbook for 2026–2027 and described suggested additions and revisions intended for the coming school year. The board discussed the materials but did not take formal votes to adopt any policy revisions or the handbook at this meeting.
Two formal motions recorded in the minutes were procedural: the agenda approval, moved by Board member Teresa Grabowski and seconded by Board member Brooke Schmitt, and the adjournment, moved by Board member Mark Johnson and seconded by Board member Chelsea Schweitzer. Both motions passed 6–0. The meeting was called to order at 5:00 P.M., attendance was recorded at 5:02 P.M., and the committee adjourned at 5:59 P.M.
