Library board approves up to $48,000 for architectural planning to guide capital projects

"We'll set it up and then say, these are the areas. This is the cost to do this," he said, arguing the work will make it possible to present clear projects to potential donors.
Board members discussed timing and procurement. Steve said the library had previously solicited bids in 2023 and that the recommended firm would perform the work at the quoted price. "We have the funds in our strategic planning," he added. He also estimated project scales aloud during discussion — noting examples from small ($6,000) to large ($6,000,000) projects as context for the planning work.
After a motion and second, the board voted by voice to approve the architectural services contract not to exceed $48,000.
The board did not specify a detailed implementation timeline at the vote, but Steve said he would contact the architect after approval to schedule community meetings and begin the planning process. The board also asked staff to track fund balances and move certain county capital contributions from operating into capital accounts for clearer reporting.
