City administration informed the Gadsden City Council on July 14 that a complaint and video showed a business identified in the transcript as "Gaga's" operating Sunday without required approvals: a city business license, an ABC (alcohol) license and a certificate of occupancy.
Miss Copeland, speaking for the administration, said staff received the video the previous afternoon and that the business had not yet delivered all required documentation to the ABC board or returned a completed ABC license to the city. "Gaga's was operating on Sunday without their business license, without their ABC license, and without their certificate of occupancy," she said.
City Attorney Lee Roberts said the matter can be a misdemeanor offense and that enforcement typically includes citations or summonses; he said the city has pursued hearings to suspend or revoke licenses in past cases and will coordinate further action with building and police departments. "There'll be citations issued or summonses to that particular case with these particular violations," Roberts said, and added that revocation is an available remedy depending on the legal status and procedural posture of the business.
Separately, City Clerk Jennifer Smith announced the municipal election for Tuesday, Aug. 25, said the city mailed postcards to registered voters to confirm addresses and polling places, and listed city polling locations by district (Antioch Family Life Center; East Gadsden Community Center; Thompson Community Center; Abundant Life Gym; Carver Community Center; Meadowbrook Family Life Center; Downtown Civic Center; Tabernacle; Senior Wellness Center; Walnut Park Community Center; Kiwanis Pavilion). Smith noted some city polling locations differ from recent county polling places and encouraged voters to check their postcard and polling assignment.
What happens next: The legal and building departments will follow up on enforcement; the clerk will continue election outreach and publish polling‑place information.
