City auditor reports clean opinion expected; unassigned fund balance declined about $550,000 in FY25

Adam Pulley, principal in charge of the audit for CLA, told the Brentwood Board of Aldermen the firm expects to issue an unmodified (clean) audit opinion for the city's FY25 financial statements next week and that CLA currently anticipates no audit findings.
Pulley summarized key numbers: the city’s unassigned general‑fund balance declined by about $550,000 between 2024 and 2025, the general fund ended the year at about $8.5 million, and total governmental funds were close to $25 million. He said the unassigned balance still covers roughly five months of general‑fund expenditures, which CLA considers a healthy position.
Pulley also explained required communications that accompany the audit, including items that appear as 'uncorrected misstatements' on governance letters when they are not material enough to result in findings. "At the end of the day, what we're looking to do is issue an audit opinion over the city's financial statements," Pulley said. "At this point in time, we are anticipating issuing what's known as an unmodified or, in other words, a clean audit opinion. And at this point in time, we do not have any findings or anticipated findings to report."
Board members thanked CLA and city staff for completing the audit on time for state reporting deadlines. The board did not take formal action on the audit at the meeting; Pulley said the audit is undergoing the firm's quality review and should be issued the following week.
