Dr. Stewart of operations reviewed the program’s history, noting the board’s October 2022 authorization of a three‑year cycle and the district’s use of CIP funds for playgrounds, roofing, HVAC and security enhancements. He described the RFP process for playgrounds, said the district received six bids for Glenwood and explained rubric criteria (ADA compliance, equipment removal/installation, design and space utilization, price and quality).
Dr. Stewart said poured‑in‑place rubber surfacing is more expensive up front but reduces annual remulch costs (about $85,000 in prior annual remulching across the district) and improves ADA access. Trustees asked about Glenwood’s enrollment and existing playground configurations; staff said Glenwood’s current enrollment is 408 students and that the school has at least two playground areas.
The motion to approve the Bars Recreation contract was moved, seconded and approved unanimously.
