The Parks & Recreation Committee on Dec. 9 reviewed a recent beach cleanup, agreed to monthly grooming for the sand, discussed merchandise sales and confirmed holiday-event plans.
Committee members said roughly eight volunteers participated in a recent beach cleanup and that participants completed photos and name sheets for submission to Keep Pinellas Beautiful. S2 and others clarified lead responsibilities for upcoming cleanups: S2 recorded John as the lead for January and S5 confirmed assigned pickup and signage duties.
S3 said Kyle tasked staff to "comb the sand" once a month to groom the beaches, starting at the 19th Street location. The committee discussed logistics including mulching and trimming of median plantings as part of appearance efforts.
On merchandise, members said recent sales were low and proposed offering hoodies via preorder (collect sizes and payment before placing an order). S3 estimated wholesale hoodie cost at about $25 and suggested retail between $40 and $55, and volunteered to prepare renderings for social-media preorders.
For upcoming events, the committee agreed to host a holiday "ugly-sweater" social and discuss participating in or coordinating with nearby cities for a boat parade in a following year. The meeting ended with scheduling the next Parks & Recreation meeting for Jan. 13, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
