The Amelia County Public Schools board approved several personnel actions and welcomed new school leaders at its meeting. The board voted by voice to approve a closed-session motion citing personnel matters and later approved the personnel agenda that resulted from that closed discussion.
The meeting opened with the chair reading the statutory purpose for the closed session under the Code of Virginia: “For discussion of matters covered under item a 1 of section 2.2-3711 of Code of Virginia 1950 as amended pertaining to discussion or consideration concerning 8 new hires, 1 change in status, 12 stipends, and 1 resignation,” then moved and seconded the motion and called for a voice vote. Following the closed session, the chair reconvened the meeting and asked members to certify that they had discussed only the stated personnel items; three members responded, “I certify.”
Later the chair asked for and received a motion and second to approve the meeting agenda, and the board observed a moment of silence and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
The chair then asked for a motion to approve the personnel agenda that had been discussed in closed session. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. After that vote, a board member asked whether anyone wished to speak further about the personnel approvals; no substantive remarks about personnel were recorded.
A committee member announced personnel appointments: “At this time, we would like to, congratulate doctor Ramey and welcome her to Amelia County High School as the incoming principal,” and also said Kristen Crowder “will be joining us on Friday and starting as the new assistant principal at Amelia County High School on the 6th.”
With no school board member reports offered, the chair asked for a motion to adjourn; a motion and second were recorded and brief informal remarks followed. The transcript records the motions, voice votes and the announcements but does not list individual vote tallies or the names of members who moved or seconded each motion.
