Belleair Beach's City Council unanimously adopted a final millage rate of 2.0394 mills for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, 2025, and ending Sept. 30, 2026, during its Sept. 15 final budget hearing.
The council approved Resolution 2025-08 after the city attorney read the measure and the clerk called the roll. The adopted rate is 1.29% higher than the rollback rate certified by the county appraiser and, by law, the council read the adopted rate into the public record.
City council members and staff discussed how the change would affect homeowners. Council member Jody Shirley urged residents to look at the Belleair Beach line on their tax notice, and said the city's share of a tax bill is roughly 10%. "The difference between the rollback rate and the rate that we're voting on today amounts to about $30," Shirley said, using an assessed value example of roughly $1,300,000.
Council members emphasized that county and school taxes make up the majority of many residents' bills and that concerns about other jurisdictions' rates should be raised with county officials.
The council recorded a unanimous roll call in support of the millage. The resolution takes effect immediately; the mayor also read the fiscal-year dates into the record.
The council moved on to other agenda items after closing citizen comments with no public speakers on the millage.
