School board approves 2026 CIP priorities including office renovations and new school planning

The Amelia County School Board approved the division's 2026 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) priorities after a presentation from Doctor Harper.
"Our Amelia County Public Schools Capital Improvement Plan 2026 outlines a strategy for addressing the evolving needs of Amelia County public schools," Doctor Harper told the board, describing the top-ranked projects and noting that estimate figures are subject to change. Harper listed the five prioritized items for the coming year: renovations to the School Board Office Building (original estimate noted near $4,000,000), middle school paving, high school HVAC RTU replacement, bus shop field lighting to allow evening practices, and planning work for a new middle/high school to address future enrollment and aging facilities.
Harper said the CIP also sequences projects through 2031, covering additional HVAC, plumbing, kitchen equipment replacements, bathroom renovations, a proposed high school athletic complex and CTE facility planning. The board moved, seconded and approved the CIP list by voice vote.
Harper also reported inspection and maintenance items in the facilities update: quarterly sprinkler inspections identified faulty valves at the elementary and middle schools and a resolved dialer issue at the board office; staff are awaiting repair quotes with plans to complete work before a five'year inspection in January.
