The Amelia County School Board voted to adopt Option 3 for the 2026'27 instructional calendar following a presentation and recommendation from the calendar committee.
Doctor Browning presented the committee's review process, saying the group's outreach included listening sessions, a slide deck for stakeholders and an online survey of 246 respondents. "We had 246 people respond with 15 52% of the respondents were parents," Browning said, adding that Option 3 "received 43.1 of the votes" while other options received smaller shares.
The board-approved Option 3 keeps the division's total instructional hours consistent with the current year, sets teacher return for Aug. 7 and schedules students to start on Aug. 18, with the last day of school on May 27, 2027. The calendar preserves six early-release days and the committee adjusted minor scheduling details in response to stakeholder feedback (for example, shifting the open house to three days after return in some options).
Board members asked clarifying questions during the presentation but moved quickly from information to action. The motion to approve Option 3 was made, seconded and carried on a voice vote.
The board will finalize any administrative follow-ups in January when salary and state compensation information becomes available; Browning said the calendar committee's recommendation was crafted "based on that" stakeholder feedback and survey results.
