Pleasant Valley council approves maintenance contracts, cemetery road repairs and car-show budget

Pleasant Valley’s City Council approved a series of maintenance and repair contracts and a $2,000 budget for the city’s car-show table during its Aug. 20 meeting.
Council accepted a WV Green bid to reseed the ballfield and lower field for a total not to exceed $8,000 after John Miller, the city’s code enforcement officer, presented the estimate. Mike Walls moved to approve the bid; Chip Phillips seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
On City Hall repairs, the council voted to accept Crossroad Property Rescue’s kitchen-repair estimate of $14,276.59. Mike Walls moved and Justin Boggs seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Separately, Eagle Eye Security’s proposal to replace eight cameras for $4,626 was approved on a motion by Mike Walls and a second from Chip Phillips.
Chuck Ledsome presented a $30,875 bid from C.W. Stickley for Linn Cemetery road repairs. Council members noted the cemetery’s historical status and discussed eligibility for hotel/motel funding to support the work; Chuck said he would like repairs completed by Veterans Day. Chuck moved to accept the C.W. Stickley bid; Mike Walls seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Matt Heston asked for one additional quote and said he would obtain another estimate prior to the next meeting.
Mayor Emily Haddix also requested a $2,000 budget for the city table at the McCutchan Car Show on Aug. 24; Mike Walls moved to approve the allocation, Matt Heston seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Why it matters: the votes authorize a set of routine but substantive repairs and purchases that affect municipal facilities, safety, and event operations. The cemetery road contract is the largest single award approved at the meeting and drew discussion about the site’s historic significance and funding sources. Council adjourned at 7:46 p.m.
