Residents, nonprofits and City Net give updates as Glenville council hears public comments and schedules cleanups

Residents, nonprofit representatives and a private internet provider addressed the Glenville City Council at its April 6 meeting, offering service updates, event notices and a personnel reinstatement request.
Melissa O'Brein of City Net told the council she would provide updates on City Net service expansions in Glenville and invited residents to contact the company to verify service availability. Representatives of Glenville Presbyterian Church requested permission to advertise an April 18 screening of the film OCEAN.
During public comment Dave Kennedy asked the council to reconsider reinstating him to his prior city position subject to conditions. An attendee identified as Adam said he believed Kennedy was an asset to the city and that the council would take the conditions into consideration. The minutes do not record a formal motion or follow-up action on the request.
Council received and recorded three proclamations: Family Strengthening and Child Abuse Prevention Month (presented by Jessica Greenlief), Sexual Assault Awareness Month for April 2026 (presented by Susan Bone), and a mayoral reading for the Week of the Young Child.
Under old business the council confirmed community cleanup events: a River Clean Up on April 11; tire disposal on April 17, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. at the Gilmer County Fire House; and a community clean-up April 18–19 with dumpsters at the Community Garden in the Foodland Plaza. Council noted estimated city costs at roughly $2,500, that the Solid Waste Authority would contribute about $5,000, and the agreed county split for any overages (40% Glenville, 40% county, 20% Sand Fork).
What’s next: The council tabled several funding requests (including a $3,600 request from Family Resource Network) pending further information and scheduled 'Lay the Levy' for April 21, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.
