The Grafton Planning Commission opened its meeting and approved the agenda and September minutes before turning to FY26–27 budget planning. Chair (S1) proposed restoring a $2,500 line to the commission budget to pay for administrative assistance, consultant support and modest training or speaker expenses tied to the town-plan process.
Why it matters: Commission members said a small, flexible fund would let them pay for travel or honoraria for outside experts, cover printing and minor supplies, and compensate temporary administrative help without repeatedly seeking Select Board exceptions. Members recalled prior arrangements where outside administrators were paid through other town coffers and agreed the modest pot makes it easier to run outreach and in‑person sessions.
Members noted the town previously carried a much smaller line and that the new planning cycle will require more legwork. Chair (S1) said, “We gotta spend it,” framing the request as necessary overhead to move a new plan forward. Members flagged the need to itemize expected expenditures when the request is submitted to the Select Board and asked S1 to prepare an itemized one‑page justification for the next meeting.
What they decided and next steps: Commissioners agreed in principle to the $2,500 amount and asked the Chair to prepare an itemized request and supporting paragraph for the Select Board. The Chair said he would present the item at the Commission’s next meeting and circulate the draft to staff (Morgan/Cathy) for administrative follow-up.
Procedural notes: At the start of the meeting the Commission approved the agenda and September minutes by voice vote. No formal vote on the $2,500 line was recorded during this session; members instructed staff to prepare the paperwork for Select Board consideration.
