Adams County commissioners approve $2.3 million in SCFD grants for local arts and culture

The Adams County Board of Commissioners approved a staff-recommended distribution plan for the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) Tier 3 funding for 2026—2027.
Dion Stroder, the county manager, introduced the item after it was pulled from the consent calendar. Byron Fanning of Parks, Open Space and Cultural Arts presented the item and turned the floor to Zoe Ocampo and Joyce Downing from the county's cultural council. Ocampo said the council reviewed 95 grant applications and recommended distributing approximately $2,300,000 to support arts and culture across Adams County, covering 132 projects. "There are 20 organizations that are home county and get general operating support," Ocampo said, and staff noted three visual-arts projects also will be funded.
Commissioners framed the allocation as an investment in quality-of-life and local economic activity; the chair highlighted that public-art set-asides and arts programming generate economic returns across the Denver metro area. The board then moved and voted to approve the allocation.
The allocation will be administered by the county's cultural council and follow SCFD rules for distribution and reporting. Commissioners encouraged residents to read the full applicant recommendations on the county's information portal and thanked cultural council volunteers for their review work.
