Belleair Shores approves beach-access signs, keeps deputy patrol hours and grants 3-inch variance for generator

Belleair Shores — At its Oct. 15 meeting the commission approved several routine actions and local measures including beach-access signs, maintenance of limited deputy patrol hours, and a 3-inch variance for an emergency generator.
Deputy Trump reported that fencing has been installed at the beach access points, that officers are patrolling the beach and watching houses, and that last month there were two parking citations and several ordinance violations issued. He recommended purchasing signs reading "No Trespassing Beach Accesses Closed." The commission directed Vice Mayor Storie to arrange purchase of the signs by voice vote.
Mayor Blume said he spoke with Safebuilt, which waived the pre-application fee for a pending matter, and that Mr. Cooper will try to expedite work to reduce costs to the town. The commission reached consensus to continue Deputy Trump's assignment at four hours per week for now.
On non-agenda items, Commissioner Tolbert asked what happens if residents do not have debris out for the final pass; the commission noted the property owners will be responsible for disposal. The commission then considered a variance request: Mayor Blume's request for a three-inch variance to install an emergency generator at 1260 Gulf Blvd. Attorney Lewis said that, because the town is under a State of Emergency, the town has authority to act for the health and safety of residents. Vice Mayor Storie moved to approve the 3-inch variance; Commissioner Tolbert seconded and the voice vote was unanimous.
The commission approved the treasurer's report for September 2024 (Town Clerk Mary Palmer noted FY2025 insurance was paid in September) and adjourned by unanimous voice vote.
