The Town of Belleair Shore commission on Jan. 21 designated former Mayor Bob Schmidt to meet with Pinellas County Sheriff Gualtieri to discuss the town's contract with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office and authorized a possible special meeting on Jan. 30 to continue the discussion.
Attorney Lewis told the commission that if the town did not sign the contract, the services spelled out in the agreement would end at month-end and the sheriff's office would limit responses to violent crimes. Mayor Blume offered background on the contract for newly sworn Commissioner Robin Lally. Former Mayor Bob Schmidt urged the commission to "go back to the Sheriff regarding the contract and add back in the services," prompting commissioners to move for a delegation to meet with the sheriff.
Vice Mayor Storie moved to designate former Mayor Bob Schmidt to meet with Sheriff Gualtieri, with a commissioner to also attend; Commissioner Tolbert seconded the motion and it passed by unanimous voice vote. Commissioner Tolbert also moved, if needed, to schedule a special meeting on Jan. 30 at 5:00 p.m.; Vice Mayor Storie seconded and the motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
